Opening the football season with the best start in school history, the Nipomo Titans defeated the Golden West Trailblazers 35-20 at Titan Stadium Friday night.

“It’s great,” Nipomo head coach Tony Dodge said about beginning the season 3-0, a mark never achieved by a Nipomo team. “What it tells me is that we are doing the right things, we’re coaching them the right way, we’re running the right (plays) and the boys are responding.”

Led on the ground by sophomore running back Keyshawn Pu’a, Nipomo knocked off the defending CIF Central Section Division IV Champions Golden West (1-2). Pu’a racked a total of 102 yards of rushing on 15 touches, including a 19-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter to extend Nipomo's lead to 35-13.
